Anime is one of the most amazing as well as the most underrated genres of entertainment. Most of the people who are not familiar with anime, consider it to be a strange taboo, an unusual guilty-pleasure and very often, a very childlike source of entertainment. Anime is often confused with cartoons and thus, not taken as seriously as it should be. 1. Anime is usually based on an illustrated, hand-drawn, comic-like series known as 'Manga'. Manga range from all sorts of genres. From ninjas to superheroes, dinosaurs to robots. Manga illustrators are known as 'Mangaka in Japanese.



2.  Manga are made for all genres and for all ages. Which is contrary to comics in the Western culture that generally caters to kids.

3. ‘One Piece’ one of the most popular manga/anime in Japan was supposed       to run for a maximum of five years. However, the mangaka Eeichro Oda         liked illustrating it so much that it has been going on for the past sixteen    years!



4.  In the pilot versions of the manga ‘Naruto’ the titular protagonist Naruto            Uzumaki was not supposed to be a ninja. In fact, he was a shape shifting          nine tailed demon fox who had magical powers. However, the creator of            Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto didn’t liked it and changed the protagonist to a      ninja.



5. This fact belongs to one of the most psychotic thriller anime/manga I ever        came across. The anime Death Note was banned in China because it            become so popular that kids started buying Death Note Notebooks and        wrote the names of the people they hated, hoping they would die.



6. Konohamaru Sarutobi,a character from the anime ‘Naruto’ and his friends,make a cameo appearance in another cartoon show ‘Ben 10’ at the end of episode 30.


7.  Anime production typically involves the services of almost 2,000 people per episode around the world and costs some $ 100,000 to 300,000 per episode!

8.  Nico Robin’s tragic past in One Piece, the annihilation of Ohara, was  similar to an incident in Ancient China where scholars were executed and  books were burned; as Emperor Shi Hugandi believed that uneducated  people were easier to control.

10. This one is kinda funny and comes from the legendary ‘Dragon Ball Z’. The  name of the spirit bomb, ‘Genki Dama’ is a pun on ‘Denki Gama’ which  means ‘Electric rice cooker’ in Japanese.



11. The Anime/manga ‘Parasyte’ may refer to a real life medical condition  known as the ‘Alien Hand Syndrome’ where the victim has a hand that acts  on its own will without the person’s control.



12. ‘The Great Naruto Bridge’ from the anime/manga ‘Naruto’ is a reference  to a real life bridge of the same name. The real bridge is famous for is  whirlpools; (called ‘Uzumaki’ in Japanese) This is possibly how the  protagonist Naruto Uzumaki got his surname! 




13. Animated Japanese films and television shows account for the world’s 60%  Animation-based entertainment. So successful is anime in Japan that there  are more than 130 voice acting schools in the country!



14.  The highest grossing anime film of all time is ‘Spirited Away’, bringing a  total of $274,925,095 worldwide! The second is ‘Howls Moving Castle’.  bringing in $235,184,110 worldwide!
